Drone and missile attacks

Two new data sources: the dataset of Russian missile and drone attacks based on Ukrainian Air Force data and the data on Ukrainian drone attacks from the Russian Defence Ministry.

Planned

Date ranges on every chart

Switch a time series between the last year, since 2023, or the whole full-scale war, instead of one fixed window.

Downloads that carry their source

A downloaded chart image currently arrives as a bare plot. It should come with the title, the source and the licence attached, so it can be published as-is.

Exploring

Ukrainian General Staff's daily report

Ukraine's General Staff publishes daily reports on number of engagements, and other metrics.

Civilian casualties

Civilian deaths and injuries verified by the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine.

Each chart got a 1-click reuse in Datawrapper

Button under each chart now opens an editable copy in your own Datawrapper account, ready to restyle and publish. The data travels as a snapshot, so it stops updating once you take it, and the credit and a link back here stay attached.

This week

Charts now carry their source

A chart downloaded from this site, or shown as the preview when someone shares a link to it, now carries its title, the source the data comes from, and this site's name. Nothing changes on the page itself. The credit appears once a chart travels without the page around it.

The four regions Russia claims as its own

A new chart tracks how much of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson is under Russian control, month by month since September 2022. Russia declared all four annexed within their full administrative borders, and has never held any of them completely.

Charts on the air war

Two new charts: Russian missiles and Shahed-type drones launched at Ukraine each month, and how many were neutralised. Both are built from Ukrainian Air Force reports compiled by Petro Ivaniuk, and they open a new Air war topic in the catalogue.

Changelog, roadmap, snail and the state of war figures

Major update with changelog and the roadmap (yes, this one), and updates to the main page: the snail block and the panel with figures.

The pipeline goes up

Set up the daily pulling of DeepState's data into a database and pushing it to charts that redraw themselves.
